Admission Process: Clearing the Runway
First things first, before someone can become a pilot, they need to go through a special process to get into pilot school. It’s like clearing a runway before a plane can take off!
Minimum requirements for you to join a pilot school as per CAA Nepal:
Age: Note less than 18 years
Medical Fitness: Class I Medical
Education Qualification: Intermediate of Science or equivalent in which the subjects of Physics and Mathematics are covered.
Once the above requirements are met, Individuals aspiring to become pilots are advised to apply for pilot training exclusively at schools validated by CAA Nepal for Pilot Training. The latest list of approved schools can be accessed from CAA Nepal’s official website or by contacting Sudisha Aviation Consultant (SAC) for the most recent publication by CAA Nepal.
Imagine you’re choosing which school to go to, just like picking a favorite ice cream flavor. You have to look at different pilot schools to find the one that suits you best. Some schools might have bigger planes, while others might have really cool instructors.
Next comes the medical checkup. Just like going to the doctor before starting a big adventure, future pilots need to make sure they’re healthy enough to fly. You will need to undergo a Medical checkup (Class I Medical) before you can actually get your NOC from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and proceed to your chosen flight school.
To ensure you have the latest and most accurate guidance on obtaining your NOC from the CAAN, please reach out to Sudisha Aviation Consultant. The procedures for acquiring your NOC may be subject to change by the CAAN periodically.
After all that, it’s time for the exciting part—flying lessons! Students learn all about planes and how to control them while up in the sky. And finally, there are tests to pass—a written test about flying knowledge and a practical test where you actually fly a plane with an instructor watching. If you pass both, congratulations! You’ve earned your private pilot certificate!
Choosing the Right Flight School
The Essential Questions You Need to be Asking Every Flight School
“Effective planning yields favorable outcomes”: this fundamental principle is crucial in aviation, as any pilot will attest. While commonly applied to preflight planning, its relevance extends to the initial private pilot training, influencing the safety of all future flights. Recognizing this, the significance of choosing an optimal flight school becomes evident. Additionally, you are entrusting your aspirations of flight, along with your time and financial resources, to the selected pilot training program, making it a pivotal decision in your journey as an aspiring pilot.
However, as a novice without pilot experience, navigating this decision-making process can be daunting. Distinguishing between commendable training programs and others, and identifying crucial factors before committing can be challenging. Thankfully, there exists trustworthy advice and information to guide you in making an informed decision.
To approach this decision with confidence, it is essential to pose relevant questions based on insights and experiences from the flight training industry. To facilitate this, we have created a concise checklist to assist you in asking pertinent questions when evaluating a flight school. Regardless of the school’s strengths or weaknesses, they should be capable of providing candid and direct responses to your inquiries.

Exploring Exciting Career Paths After Obtaining Your Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
Congratulations on achieving your Commercial Pilot License (CPL)!
Now that you’ve reached this milestone, let’s take a closer look at the diverse and thrilling career opportunities that await you in the world of aviation:
1. Commercial Pilot:
As a commercial pilot, you’ll have the chance to fly for airlines, cargo carriers, or charter companies. Your main responsibilities will include safely and efficiently transporting passengers or cargo to their destinations. You’ll typically operate larger aircraft, such as regional jets or commercial airliners. This career path offers stability and rewarding experiences.
2. Flight Instructor:
Becoming a flight instructor allows you to share your passion and knowledge of flying with aspiring aviators. In this role, you’ll teach students how to fly both in the classroom and in the cockpit. Serving as an instructor is an excellent way to gain valuable experience and build up your flight hours. Many pilots begin their careers as instructors before moving on to other aviation roles.
3. Corporate/Private Jet Pilot:
If you’re drawn to the idea of flying high-net-worth individuals or corporate executives, becoming a corporate or private jet pilot might be the perfect fit for you. In this role, you’ll operate private jets, ensuring that your passengers travel comfortably and efficiently to their destinations. This niche offers lucrative opportunities and a chance to work in an exclusive and prestigious environment.
4. Type Rating and Cadetship:
After obtaining your CPL, you may consider pursuing specialized training known as type rating for specific aircraft types. Airlines often require pilots to have type ratings for particular models, such as the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320. Type-rated pilots are in high demand and can command higher salaries. Additionally, some airlines offer cadet programs where they sponsor your training in exchange for a commitment to work for them. This structured pathway provides a clear route to becoming an airline pilot.

While pursuing a career in aviation is incredibly rewarding, it also comes with its own set of challenges:
- Rigorous Training Schedules: Flight training requires discipline and dedication, with long hours spent honing your skills.
